Christine Bangert, MD

Medical University of Vienna General Hospital, Vienna, Austria

Dr Christine Bangert is a senior dermatologist at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, since 2013. She specializes predominantly in allergic and inflammatory skin diseases. She graduated from Medical University of Lübeck in Northern Germany and moved to Vienna completing her residency at the Department of Dermatology at the Medical University of Vienna. Her fellowship training specializing in allergic and inflammatory skin diseases was with Drs Tamara Kopp and Georg Stingl.

Dr Bangert’s research interests include the pathogenic analysis of the cellular and molecular components of several inflammatory skin diseases with emphasis on atopic eczema.

Dr Bangert has an additional specialization in Allergology. She currently works as senior clinical specialist in Dermatology at the Allergy Outpatient Clinic at the Medical University of Vienna where she is currently head of the outpatient clinic for atopic dermatitis and its clinical trial unit. She clinically also co-operates with the Allergy Outpatient Clinic at Reumannplatz, Vienna.

Dr Bangert has authored and/or co-authored more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has recently published a series of results on clinical trials / translational research using molecular profiling for atopic dermatitis.

Dr Bangert is currently head of the steering committee of the Austrian task force of Allergology and member of the European task force of Atopic dermatitis of the EADV.

Perla Lansang, MD

The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada

Dr. Perla Lansang is a full-time staff dermatologist and associate professor in the Division of Dermatology, University of Toronto.  She is based at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre where she served as Division Director for 3 years.  Prior to that, she was the Director of Undergraduate Education for the Division of Dermatology for over 10 years.

She is cross-appointed at the Section of Paediatric Dermatology at the Hospital for Sick Children where she runs a pediatric psoriasis clinic, and the Division of Obstetric Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Dr. Lansang completed her medical school and dermatology residency at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital.  Having done fellowships in pediatric dermatology at The Hospital for Sick Children and in advanced medical dermatology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Lansang’s practice is a mixture of pediatric, adolescent, and adult dermatology, with a special focus on psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, pregnancy dermatoses, autoimmune bullous diseases, and general medical dermatology.  She has a special interest in immune-mediated skin diseases and has extensive clinical and research experience in many areas of immunodermatology.

Overview

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory disease with cutaneous and systemic effects that can lead to significant disease burden in children and their caregivers. These highlights from an ADVENT symposium presented at EAPS 2024 will discuss the role of type 2 inflammation in skin barrier disruption and itch, the persistence of AD from childhood into adulthood, and the importance of early intervention in children with severe AD.
